Who Should Be Diablo Cody's Next Leading Lady?

If you enjoy Diablo Cody's stylized writing then let's play a little game. Which actress would you most like to see Cody write a script for? This includes film or TV.

Ellen Page was pitch-perfect in Juno, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried were evil/good in Jennifer's Body and Toni Collette is brilliantly schizophrenic in United States of Tara. So who's next?

Here are my candidates:

1. Kristen Bell - Before she did voice overs for Gossip Girl she was Veronica Mars and that was pretty sweet. Kudos to the writers on that show because Veronica Mars was someone you didn't want to mess with. If anyone can handle an offbeat Cody one-liner, it will be her.


2. Zooey Deschanel - When she's not making great films (500 Days of Summer) she's making great music (She & Him) and her snarky comedic timing would be a nice fit for Codyspeak.


3. Rosario Dawson - She's worked with Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino so a gig with Cody would be a smart move. I'd like to see what quirky lines Cody would give her.


Other names that came to my mind were Lauren Graham, Anne Hathaway, Alexis Bledel, Kat Dennings and Emma Stone.

Rosario Dawson 2x

Rosario Dawson has a couple upcoming films:

First, Dawson has been cast alongside Kevin James in a romantic comedy called The Zookeeper. They make an odd couple but I'm sure it's going to be hilarious! Here's what Variety reported:

The Zookeeper centers on zoo animals trying to teach the keeper their methods of dating and mating to help him win back the woman of his dreams.

Adam Sandler, whose Happy Madison shingle is also a producer on the pic, will voice a capuchin monkey. Cher's voicing a giraffe, John Favreau a bear, Sylvester Stallone a lion and Judd Apatow an elephant.

Second, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Dawson joined the cast of Unstoppable, an action/thriller starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine (Star Trek).

Unstoppable is about the desperate efforts of a veteran engineer and novice conductor to stop a train laden with toxic cargo speeding out of control toward a nearby city...Dawson will take on the role of a train dispatcher helping the men via radio.

So that's two Rosario Dawson roles to look forward to in 2010!

Comic Books and Comic-Con

In light of my recent trip to the Chicago Comic-Con over the weekend I've decided to highlight some actresses who have channeled their creativity into the comic book industry.

• Rosario Dawson - She's a self-proclaimed comic book fan and released O.C.T. (Occult Crimes Taskforce) with plans on adapting it into a film or web series one day.

• Rashida Jones - It doesn't surprise me that Jones decided to enter the comic book arena, she's a smart woman (she did graduate from Harvard) and the series she co-created is about an heiress turned spy. Frenemy of the State comes out soon via Oni Press.

• Hilarie Burton - The One Tree Hill star posted a video on her Southern Gothic Productions site about her upcoming graphic novel plans. All I know is that Burton and her partner, writer Nicholas Gray, seemed really excited about the endeavor. Head over to their site and watch the video yourself.

• Charlyne Yi - In an interview with Women & Hollywood, the Paper Heart star revealed her enthusiasm to make a comic book. Whatever the topic I'm sure it will be something I'd like to read.

Rosario Dawson Wins NAACP Image Award

Rosario Dawson gave an ailing woman dignity, intrigue and humor with her portrayal of Emily Posa in Seven Pounds. She brought character to life in such a graceful way. I hope she gets more roles like this.

Other winners include Gina Prince-Bythewood for The Secret Life of Bees and Taraji P. Henson for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

This Revolution

This Revolution uses the backdrop of the 2004 Republican National Convention to enter the realm of activists and their anti-Bush protests. It has a heavy indie vibe which works well for everything except the ending (it's a little far-fetched). Rosario Dawson doesn't have a lot of screen time but her scenes are the most poignant.

Seven Pounds

I can't wait to see this movie!

When Rosario Dawson and Will Smith shared the screen in Men in Black 2 I wanted them to have more scenes together because the chemistry was there. Now with Seven Pounds I'll get just that. Dawson is one of my favorite actresses and this is exactly the kind of dramatic role I'd like to see her in. She's got an amazing range but she justs needs more opportunities to showcase it.

Anyone else excited to see this film?
