Trailer: Mooz-lum

Evan Ross is on the road to becoming a quietly explosive actor. Given the right material, Ross could have a shot at an Oscar or Emmy, although a Spirit award is more likely in the near future. I enjoyed him as a stuttering swimmer in Pride, an aspiring chef in According to Greta and a runaway teen in Gardens of the Night. In Mooz-lum, Ross plays a Muslim-American college freshman who faces adversity from his peers and family. I haven't seen it yet but the story looks enticing.

The Hilary Duff and Evan Ross movie I wrote about here and here finally opens in theaters this weekend. It's on a limited showcase in Los Angeles but hopefully it will roll out on more screens. The supporting cast features Ellen Burstyn and Melissa Leo.

Greta

What's the hold-up with Greta? I first heard about the Hilary Duff/Evan Ross flick back in 2007 but the release date keeps getting pushed back. It seems like it could be a neat movie, that's if you don't mind teen angst coming-of-age stories. I like the two leads and I'm interested in seeing what kind of charm they can bring to the screen. Greta also stars the Oscar-nominated Melissa Leo (Frozen River) and Ellen Burstyn.

"A waitress falls for an ambitious cook at a restaurant where they work. But as their love blossoms, she has to overcome concerns of her grandparents who are worried about the mixed-race relationship and her boyfriend's criminal past."

Gardens of the Night

This isn't a movie for the faint of heart. Gardens of the Night deals with a disturbing subject matter: kidnapping. But don't let its heavy nature scare you off because it seems like an engaging story about the bond between two people who love each other through the worst of times.
