Jean of the Joneses Finds a Home on TVOne

         

This year, filmmaker Stella Meghie debuted her first feature film at the SXSW Film Festival. Cable network TVOne has acquired the film and set a premiere date.

Stella Meghie is in the beginning stages of building an impressive portfolio that comes from years of hard work. In 2010, Jean of the Joneses was selected as a finalist in  UrbanWorld Film Festival’s Live Screenplay Reading. 2011 saw the release of her short film Recovering Undercover Over Lover. Deriving her title from the initial lyric of Erykah Badu’s Out of My Mind, Just In Time, it's more than likely her work is easily relished by the soulful and unrepentantly black. This short film inspired the upcoming feature film and it's creator is finally seeing the fruits of all her labor.

 Sherri Shepherd (The View), Gloria Reuben (E.R), Michelle Hurst (Orange is the New Black), and Erica Ash (Survivor’s Remorse) form the ensemble cast. Hit the Floor’s Taylour Paige stars in the titular role of Jean in the story about a family of women whose estranged patriarch returns and dies suddenly.

Meghie has recently signed on the direct the adaptation of the young adult novel Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. From the rave reviews and hilarious trailer, we will certainly enjoy Jean of the Joneses this fall. Tune into TVOne October 23.
